Mark Wahlberg: Don't You Dare Compare Acting to Serving in the Military

Nov 14 2013, 7:14am CST | by ABC News Radio

ABC/RANDY HOLMES(LOS ANGELES) -- In a recent deposition, Tom Cruise reportedly compared his movie shoots to serving in Afghanistan.  Mark Wahlberg doesn't exactly view his own work in the same way.

In fact, Wahlberg unleashed a string of profanities at a Los Angeles event Tuesday night to emphasize just how insulting he believes it is to compare acting to serving in the military.

Wahlberg was at an AFI Fest screening of his film Lone Survivor, which is based on a true story and focuses on a team of Navy SEALs who target an al Qaeda operative and are ambushed in Afghanistan.

During a question-and-answer session, Wahlberg was asked to comment on the difficulty of the shoot.  According to TheWrap.com, the actor answered in part, "I don’t know, it just really upset me that those guys were never gonna see their families again.  For actors to sit there and talk about, ‘Oh I went to SEAL training, and I slept on the' -- I don’t give a f*** what you did.  You don’t do what these guys did."

He added, "For somebody to sit there and say my job was as difficult as somebody in the military’s, how f***ing dare you.  While you sit in a makeup chair for two hours.”

Wahlberg called himself a "very lucky guy to do what I do and I’m proud to have been part of [the film], but it’s just so much bigger than what I do."

It's unclear whether Wahlberg was referencing Cruise's comments.  Cruise's lawyer previously clarified the actor's quotes were taken out of context and that during the deposition he scoffed at the idea that acting and fighting in a war are equally difficult.

Cruise's deposition was part of a lawsuit he filed against the publisher of Life & Style and In Touch magazines over stories that claimed he "abandoned" his daughter Suri following his divorce from Katie Holmes.

Wahlberg's film, Lone Survivor, opens Jan. 10.
