I can’t tell where the journey will end, but I know where to start. Right here, with our favorite tube songs in this latest edition of TVLine Mixtape.

We’ve pulled together a collection of tunes from the hottest shows, complete with artist and album information in case you want to add them to your permanent collection. Spoilers abound, and we chose songs we liked – but we always want to hear your thoughts and suggestions.

So peruse our playlist, and then hit the comments with your favorite TV jams! And remember: You can always submit questions or suggestions about TV music on Twitter @mishasolomontv.

RELATED | NBC’s Sound of Music Live! First Look: Carrie Underwood and Stephen Moyer Revive a Classic

SERIES AND EPISODE | How I Met Your Mother, “The Lighthouse”
TITLE | “Try a Little Tenderness”
ARTIST | Otis Redding
ALBUM | Complete & Unbelievable: The Otis Redding Dictionary of Soul (1966)
WHY IT ROCKED | How did Ted propose to The Mother? Atop a lighthouse, to the sounds of this soul classic — while we watched, eyes teary and lips quivering. HIMYM is at its best whenever it stops teasing us and tries a little tenderness.

SERIES AND EPISODE | The Walking Dead, “Indifference”
TITLE | “Serpents (Basement)”
ARTIST | Sharon Van Etten
ALBUM | Single (2013)
WHY IT ROCKED | This mournful, hypnotic ballad starts up just as Carol drives away, exiled from the prison by Rick after her (defensible?) murders. As Van Etten sings that “everything changes,” we know that indeed nothing will ever be the same between Rick and Carol (if we ever see her again, that is!).

SERIES AND EPISODE | Covert Affairs, “No. 13 Baby”
TITLE | “Tessellate”
ARTIST | alt-J
ALBUM | An Awesome Wave (2012)
WHY IT ROCKED | Annie and Auggie’s separation has never been more heartbreaking than in this episode, which features the presumed-dead Annie sitting next to Auggie on a bus while her blind former paramour is none the wiser. This eerie, electronic tune accompanies Annie’s flashback to Auggie’s gifting her with her car, now in storage.

SERIES AND EPISODE | Nashville, “It Must Be You”
TITLE | “Every Time I Fall in Love”
ARTIST | The Farm
ALBUM | The Farm (2012)
WHY IT ROCKED | After struggling with the trappings of fame over the last few episodes, Scarlett delivers a stunning cover of this song at the Bluebird, to the delight of the critics in attendance.

SERIES AND EPISODE | Eastbound & Down, “Chapter 27”
TITLE | “The Cold”
ARTIST | Exitmusic
ALBUM | Passage (2012)
WHY IT ROCKED | Kenny Powers can’t be caged. This song plays as our troubled protagonist frees his son’s pet wolf and drives away from his family. As the lyrics say, “You are alone,” Kenny Powers — you are a lone wolf.

SERIES AND EPISODE | Saturday Night Live, “Kerry Washington/Eminem”
TITLE | “My Girl”
ARTIST | Jay Pharaoh/Kerry Washington
WHY IT ROCKED | This parody of Norwegian duo Ylvis’ ubiquitous “The Fox” was spot-on. We especially loved Kerry Washington’s excellent hand motions during her dance sequences.

SERIES AND EPISODE | American Horror Story: Coven, “Burn, Witch. Burn!”
TITLE | “Right Place Wrong Time”
ARTIST | Dr. John
ALBUM | In the Right Place (1973)
WHY IT ROCKED | We always like to play a little jaunty R&B (by a New Orleans artist, no less!) on our way to a witch-burning! Between this and all the Fleetwood Mac, AHS has been on fire with its musical selections this season. (See what we did there?)

SERIES AND EPISODE | Glee, “A Katy or a Gaga”
TITLE | “Wide Awake”
ARTIST | Katy Perry
ALBUM | Teenage Dream: The Complete Confection (2012)
WHY IT ROCKED | In an episode filled with bombastic covers (see: Adam Lambert), this stripped-down version may have been even better than Katy’s original. It was also nice to hear Tina sing without some catastrophe stopping the performance.
