ABC/Randy Holmes(LOS ANGELES) -- Lisa Kudrow reveals in the November/December issue of The Saturday Evening Post that she got a "life altering" nose job when she was 16 years old.  The former Friends star says she was "hideous" before going under the knife.

The 50-year-old actress tells the magazine she had the operation as she was preparing to enter a new high school so as a result, there were plenty of people who "didn't know how hideous I looked before."

Kudrow tells the magazine her decision to have the procedure came after a very difficult time in junior high school when a couple of her best friends decided they no longer wanted to be friends anymore.  Kudrow says the friends "knew some people I didn't [and] eventually they just got tired of me being a tag-along.  They said, 'for your own good, you need to see what would happen if we weren't here.'  It was brutal.  Very hard."

Kudrow goes on to say junior high felt "upside down" to her because, "It was not, like, the nicest people who were popular; it wasn't the most entertaining people -- it was the meanest people who were popular."

If there's an upside to the story, Kudrow says she channeled those feeling to create her Friends character, Pheobe./>/>/>/>/>/>/>/>

"She was basically a ditzy girl who lived in a happier reality than everybody else, because everything was so gloomy around her," she tells the magazine. "That's what I decided.  And she was fearless and unapologetic."

Kudrow currently has a recurring role as Congresswoman Josephine Marcus on the ABC series Scandal, airing Thursdays at 10 p.m.
