RELATEDScoop on NCIS , The Mentalist , Bones , Grey’s , Castle  and More via Matt’s Inside Line

SERIES AND EPISODE | Grey’s Anatomy, “Everybody’s Crying Mercy”
TITLE | “You & I (Nobody In the World)”
ARTIST | John Legend
ALBUM | Love In the Future (2013)
WHY IT ROCKED | “Out of all the girls, you my one and only girl,” Legend sings. The swoon-worthy lyrics don’t just apply to Alex and Jo, as they (finally!) do the deed. Rather, the song takes a heartbreaking turn as Cristina and Owen stand inches apart in the elevator, agreeing to date other people. Could Legend’s lyrics mean good things ahead for the couple? Probably not, but there’s no harm in hoping./>/>/>/>

SERIES AND EPISODE | Parenthood, “In Dreams Begin Responsibilities”
TITLE | “Beautiful Day”
ARTIST | Joshua Radin
ALBUM | Wax Wings (2013)
WHY IT ROCKED | Between Victor’s poor reading skills and Kristina’s lack of campaign donations, it wasn’t a great week for the Braverman-Graham clan. But by episode’s end, things are looking up, especially after Max does the heart-melting good deed of donating to his mom’s campaign. All the scene needs is some upbeat music, and Joshua Radin’s sunny melody provides the perfect touch of optimism./>/>/>/>

SERIES AND EPISODE | Reign, “Pilot”
TITLE | “Follow”
ARTIST | Crystal Fighters
ALBUM | Star of Love (2012)
WHY IT ROCKED | There’s not many songs that we would consider fitting for a, um, masturbation scene. But after Mary and her ladies-in-waiting witness the consummation of a marriage, it’s the Crystal Fighters’ quirky ditty that sets a great pace for Kenna’s rendezvous with herself in the stairwell./>/>/>/>

SERIES AND EPISODE | Bones, “The Woman in White
TITLE | “At Last”
ARTIST | Cyndi Lauper
ALBUM | At Last (2003)
WHY IT ROCKED | Is there anything more important at a wedding than the music? Well… yes. A lot of things, actually. But the music remains a crucial component, and Cyndi Lauper’s sweeping cover of “At Last” is simply perfect as Brennan walks down the aisle — in slow motion, no less!/>/>/>/>

SERIES AND EPISODE | The Good Wife, “Outside the Bubble”
TITLE | “Satan
ARTIST | Beast
ALBUM | Satan (2008)
WHY IT ROCKED | The pace of The Good Wife has been lightning-fast lately, especially in light of Alicia leaving Lockhart Gardner. To that end, Beast’s frantic lyrics and punchy rhythm are a perfect accompaniment as paralegal Chrissy walks the halls of the firm in a stressed-out daze./>/>/>/>

SERIES AND EPISODE | The Vampire Diaries, “For Whom the Bell Tolls”
TITLE | “Without a Word”
ARTIST | Birdy
ALBUM | Birdy (2012)
WHY IT ROCKED | The two things that stand out at Bonnie’s funeral in the latest Vampire Diaries episode: Nina Dobrev’s supreme on-camera crying skills and Birdy’s somber tune in the background. The lilting melody is bittersweet, much like the fond farewell that Bonnie gives to her friends.
LINER NOTES | This isn’t the first time the Vampire Diaries ensemble has mourned alongside Birdy. Her song, “Skinny Love,” was used at John and Jenna’s funeral in the Season 2 episode, “The Sun Also Rises.”/>/>/>/>/>

SERIES AND EPISODE | American Horror Story: Coven, “Boy Parts
TITLE | “Edge of Seventeen”
ARTIST | Stevie Nicks
ALBUM | Bella Donna (1981)
WHY IT ROCKED | It’s not hard to understand why Misty Day worships Stevie Nicks. Although we love the homage to “Rhiannon” that comes later in the episode, Misty resurrecting alligators while “Edge of Seventeen” plays in the background is badass. Really, really badass./>/>/>/>

SERIES AND EPISODE | Ravenswood, “Pilot”
TITLE | “The One That Got Away”
ARTIST | The Civil Wars
ALBUM | The Civil Wars (2013)
WHY IT ROCKED | The folk duo has released some seriously haunting songs, not least of which includes this bitter, emotional track. The song sets a wonderfully gloomy mood as the Ravenswood teens run their car off the road — after narrowly avoiding a ghost in the street./>/>/>/>
