The TV icon's decades-long dry spell ended with a victory at the Primetime Creative Arts Emmy Awards in Los Angeles, where the winners in the production categories were announced.

The 84-year-old former star of The Bob Newhart Show and Newhart received the Emmy for outstanding guest actor in a comedy series, for his role on the CBS sitcom The Big Bang Theory.  It was his sixth acting nomination.

Melissa Leo snagged the prize for outstanding guest actress in a comedy series, for her performance in the FX series Louie.

The awards for outstanding guest actor and actress in a drama series went to Dan Bucatinsky, for ABC's Scandal, and Carrie Preston, for CBS' The Good Wife, respectively.
