Jon Kopaloff/FilmMagic(NEW YORK) -- Josh Brolin confirmed rumors in an interview with The Huffington Post that he was up for the role of Batman in the upcoming Superman/Batman film.

"It just didn't turn out," he explains. "It's OK.  It is OK.  You know, another scenario might have worked better, but I'm happy for Ben."

Brolin says he was relieved, however, after he saw some of the fan fallout to Affleck's casting./>/>

"I've never seen such a global reaction in my life, I feel for him, truly," the Men in Black III star admits.  "I would not want to be him right now.  The reaction becomes so personal.  It's like, 'F**k this guy, I wish he was dead.'  And you're like, 'What? Dude, seriously?  This guy is just working like you are.  He's doing the same thing you are.  He's trying to make the best choices he can... I want him to kick ass and I want everyone to love it and kind of eat their words."

Meantime, more support poured in for the Argo director and star from the onscreen superhero contingent.  The Wolverine star Hugh Jackman and, not surprisingly, Affleck's wife, Jennifer Garner -- who played the Marvel character Elektra alongside Affleck in Daredevil and her self-titled spin-off -- both weighed in.  Recently, former Batmen Michael Keaton and Val Kilmer publicly backed Affleck.

Jackman told Entertainment Tonight Canada, "Ben is poised to crush it.  I’m really happy for him.  I’m so happy he got the part."/>/>/>/>

Jackman, famous for his transformation into the metal clawed Wolverine, even joked, "I have a great trainer for Ben."

Regarding Batman specifically, Jackman said, "The difficult part of the role is the Bruce Wayne part.  I think he will crush it, and I'm really excited to see what he does.  He's ready for it.  I love Ben -- he's super smart, very talented, and he will be around for a long time."  He then alluded to the Bat-lash, saying, "I think people are gonna to love it."

For her part, Garner says she's, "excited about Batman of course," then goes on to explain how they as a couple tackle incoming jobs./>/>/>/>

"Everything we do, we look at it together, and we say, 'Can we handle this?  Can we take this?'  And this was one where we were like, 'Let’s go to Michigan!'" she says.

The upcoming Man of Steel sequel, again directed by Zack Snyder, will be shot in Detroit, and should hit theaters in 2015./>/>
