NBC Reconsiders Hillary Clinton Miniseries, While CBS Eyes Its Own Secretary of State Drama

Aug 17 2013, 7:36pm CDT | by TV Line

Hillary Clinton is providing inspiration for one potential TV project and problems for another.

As TVLine previously reported, the former secretary of state and possible 2016 presidential candidate is the subject of an announced NBC miniseries starring Diane Lane.

But our sister site Deadline reports that the project was the reason behind the Republican National Committee voting Friday to block the Peacock Net — as well as CNN, which is planning to air a documentary on Clinton in 2014 — from hosting GOP primary debates.

Not long after the RNC’s vote, NBC released a statement that leaves the project’s future up in the air.

Citing that the network is only in the script stage regarding the four-hour event, NBC entertainment chairman Bob Greenblatt’s remarks seem to indicate that the project may never reach production. “Speculation, demands and declarations pertaining to something that isn’t created or produced yet,” he adds, “seem premature.”

Meanwhile, Fox TV Studios, which had been tentatively attached to producing, has decided not to continue with the telepic.

CBS, however, is moving ahead with its own Hillary-esque drama. Per Deadline, the network is working with Morgan Freeman (The Dark Knight Rises) and Joan of Arcadia creator Barbara Hall to develop Madame Secretary. The potential series will follow a “maverick” female secretary of state at work and at home.

Hall will pen the script, which she’ll executive-produce with Freeman and Through the Wormhole‘s Lori McCreary and Tracy Mercer.

Would you watch a Hillary-based movie and/or series? Does all of this talk just kind of make you wish Political Animals had been renewed? Sound off in the comments!

'Madam Secretary' Review: A New Political Drama with Plenty of Potential

Sep 21 2014 12:00am CDT | Source: Buddy TV

Here are some questions surrounding the new CBS political drama Madam Secretary: will it be the next Good Wife or Scandal? Or will it end up being the next Commander in Chief, which was cancelled after one season? And the question that I've seen an endless amount of articles speculate and discuss: is the titular character based on former Sec ...

Jon Stewart Mocks Joe Scarborough's Hypocritical Take On Hillary Clinton

Sep 17 2014 8:13am CDT | Source: Huffington Post

So is Hillary Clinton running for president? Like most of the 2016 hopefuls, she's dodged the question -- and that had MSNBC's Joe Scarborough calling out the former secretary of state. "If you're gonna run, just say you're gonna run and stop playing games," he demanded. Just one problem: As Jon Stewart revealed on Tuesday night's "Daily Show," Scarborough was playing the exact same game earlier this year, when he refused to rule ...

Horatio Sanz On 'Saturday Night Live's' Politics: 'We Dropped The Ball' On Going After The Right

Aug 20 2014 12:09pm CDT | Source: Huffington Post

When you look at it today, "Live From New York," Tom Shales' and James Miller's seminal oral history of "Saturday Night Live," is clearly missing one thing: the last decade. Fortunately, that will all change on September 9, when a new edition of the book is released with 200 pages devoted to everything that's happened since its 2003 publication. And at least one former star is sounding off on an area where he thinks the long-running comed ...

Hillary Clinton And Kevin Spacey Parody 'House Of Cards' For Bill Clinton's Birthday

Aug 15 2014 4:24pm CDT | Source: Huffington Post

Frank Underwood is ruthless, especially when it comes to birthday presents. In this "House of Cards" parody, made in honor of former president Bill Clinton's b-day, Underwood, aka Kevin Spacey, and Hillary Clinton discuss what present she should get Bill. Underwood is leaning toward an elephant, but Hillary isn't so easily convinced. In fact, Hills dismisses Underwood's argument so quickly that we feel pretty safe assuming sh ...

Maryland Gov. Martin O'Malley (D) further hinted in a Monday interview with Fusion's Jorge Ramos that he would run for president in 2016.
