Kristen Bell: My Self-Worth Doesn’t Come from My Dress Size

Jul 31 2013, 12:42am CDT | by ABC News Radio

Eric Charbonneau/WireImage(LOS ANGELES) -- Kristen Bell gave birth to her daughter, Lincoln, four months ago, but she’s not concerned with losing the baby weight.

“I refused to worry about something I could not change, and I still refuse,” she told Redbook magazine for its September issue. “I am not a woman whose self-worth comes from her dress size.”

Still, Bell, 32, admits that it’s not easy. The actress, who is currently filming a feature film based on her hit TV series, Veronica Mars, had to learn to accept her new curves.

“Look, I’m like any other woman. All this evolved B.S. that I’m telling you is my mantra: It’s not something I practice naturally,” she said. “I had to surrender to not worrying about the way I looked, how much I weighed, because that’s just part of the journey of having a baby.”

In the magazine, on newsstands Aug. 13, the actress, who is recently proposed to her daughter’s father, actor Dax Shephard, also opened up about her life as a new mom.

These days, that means feeling guilty when she has to leave her little girl.

“I can’t look at her pictures today, because it hurts my feelings,” she said. “I start wondering what she’s thinking, like, ‘Where’s the girl with the blonde hair and the boobs?’”

And while, obviously, her family is her priority, Bell added that she’s trying to lead a balanced life.

“I still want a career,” she said. “Lincoln will always be No. 1, but I think if you can cut that cord of obsessiveness, then you can work and be a good mother and wife.”
