"Real Housewives" Stars Released on Bond, Lash Out at Reporters

ABC News(NEWARK, N.J.) -- Joe and Teresa Giudice lashed out at members of the media gathered at a Newark, N.J., courthouse Tuesday before they were released on bond.

The Real Housewives of New Jersey stars obtained their release during a brief court appearance this morning to set bail conditions on their fraud indictment.

They were charged Monday with a 39-count indictment, including conspiracy to commit mail and wire fraud, bank fraud, and bankruptcy fraud.

Joe Giudice, 43, who is from Italy and not a United States citizen, was released on a $500,000 bond secured by his father, Frank, and Teresa Giudice, 41, was released on a $500,000 unsecured bond.

Joe Giudice faces possible deportation back to Italy.

The couple also surrendered their passports and had all their travel restricted to New Jersey and New York.

“They’re serious charges,” U.S. Attorney Paul Fishman said of the allegations against the Giudices.

He added that 39 separate counts show a pattern of alleged fraud that lasted a decade.

“They are alleged to have made false statements to the bankruptcy court and the banks that lent them money,” Fishman said.

The indictment also accused Joe Giudice of failure to file tax returns for 2004 through 2008, a period when he allegedly earned nearly $1 million.

The Giudices arrived to court at around 8:30 a.m., locking arms, both wearing suits and joined by Joe Giudice’s mother, Filomena, and their lawyers. While outside, the couple seemed angry as they were approached by cameras.

Filomena Giudice directed obscenities towards reporters who asked about her son.

“You don’t have to stick the camera in my face,” Joe Giudice told the media.

Teresa Giudice added, “We made a statement already.”

Teresa Giudice’s written statement on Monday noted how “difficult” this indictment was on her family.

“I support Joe and, as a wonderful husband and father, I know he wants only the best for our lovely daughters and me,” she said. ”I am committed to my family and intend to maintain our lives in the best way possible, which includes continuing my career. As a result, I am hopeful that we will resolve this matter with the government as quickly as possible.”

Henry Klingeman, Teresa Giudice’s attorney, said Monday he looked forward to “vindicating” his client and that she will plead “not guilty.”

Joe Giudice is being represented by Miles Feinstein of Clifton, N.J., who voiced concerns about content from the couple’s reality show being used in court.

“In a criminal case, and I’ve been doing this for many years, we worry about everything,” he said, adding that he hoped to prevent “any prejudice from seeping in.”
