Top Moments: The Office Has a Big Finish and Survivor Grins and Bears It

May 16 2013, 10:18pm CDT | by

Our top moments of the week:

13. Most Fly Proposal: When Mindy decides she can't (read: doesn't want to) go to Haiti with her boyfriend Casey on The Mindy Project, she tries to back out by giving him a crazy ultimatum: She will only go if they are engaged. But since this is a sitcom, her plan backfires when Casey gets down on one knee at their bon voyage party and delivers the most ridiculous proposal. "I just had a little rap sesh with the notorious G-o-d. Know what 'G said? That's your girl, dude," he says. Be careful what you wish for.

12. The Best Laid Plans Award: On The Vampire Diaries finale, Stefan is finally ready to move on from Elena and his life in Mystic Falls until he comes in contact with Elena acting as the face of Silus. But as Stefan questions how Silus could still be alive, she explains that he is able to live on through a shadow self. Through a flash in the window, Stefan sees that Silus has morphed into his own shadow self. Before he can react, Stefan is staked and thrown in the river. Cut to black. Looks like Paul Wesley is back to playing a bad boy next season.

11. Saddest Redemption, Part i:  After Juliette's lying, money-stealing ex-boyfriend Dante tries to blackmail her into paying $10 million for a sex tape, Juliette's mom, Jolene, takes matters into her own hands on Nashville. A very high Jolene meets Dante and threatens to shoot him if he doesn't give her the file. When he refuses, she shoots and kills him. A distraught Jolene tries to numb the terror of her actions with drugs and ends up overdosing. On the upside: This is going to make for a great country song.

10. The Truth Comes Out Award: On Revenge, after Declan dies in the Grayson Global explosion, which was set off by Conrad, Jack is out for, well, revenge. Just as he's about to kill Conrad and Daniel, Emily stops him and finally comes clean. "Deep down inside, you've always known the truth," she says. "I'm Amanda Clarke." So will Jack join her revengenda next season?

9. Best (Un)Call: After (finally!) kissing and then (finally!) sleeping together on New Girl, Nick and Jess decide to call off their very confusing and very complicated "situation" at CeCe's wedding. However, after a very wise Winston tells Nick that he doesn't have to run from everything like his dear old dad, Nick goes outside to search for Jess and finds her teary-eyed, standing in front of the car. "Please can we un-call it? Before you say no, don't say no." Nick passionately kisses her and tells her to get in the car so they drive ... somewhere. Road trip!

8. Most Overdue Victory Following performances by Mariah Carey, Jennifer Lopez and Psy, among others, American Idol finally crowns Candice Glover, its first female champ after a five-year streak of male winners. It's a tearful but triumphant accomplishment for the girl who got cut before the finals twice before. The tenacious singer caps off the evening with a somewhat shaky but heartfelt rendition of her new single, "I Am Beautiful" as the confetti falls. Victory is sweet for the Candy Girl!

7. Most Electric Finale: If last year's Grey's Anatomy finale was a literal bloodbath, this season's finale is more about sangfroid. Cristina and Owen break up (again). Callie and Arizona wrestle with the latter's infidelity. Meredith endures agonizing labor. And Richard has apparently been electrocuted. No death (yet), but wow, could there be more peril?

6. Taking a Bite Out of the Competition Award: Survivor's final Tribal Council is worth chattering about — especially if you have teeth. Still seething over being blindsided by Dawn last week, Brenda asks Dawn how she could betray her after she had helped her find her retainer for her two bottom teeth because Dawn couldn't bear for anyone to see her without her teeth. Wanting Dawn to share in her heartbreak, Brenda then sternly demands: "I want you to take out your teeth, Dawn." After an intense back-and-forth, Dawn actually does it. The result is both sad and (forgive us) hilarious.

5. Saddest Redemption, Part II: After Arrow fans spent most the first season suspecting that Tommy would someday fill his father's shoes, the Season 1 finale throws that theory out the window! Oliver defeats the Dark Archer and Detective Lance defuses the Undertaking device, but there's a catch: There's a second device, which quickly levels half of The Glades, where Laurel is. It's Tommy that comes to her rescue at great cost -- as he is impaled and dies after finally reconciling with Oliver. BFFs 4-eva!

4. The Father of All Reveals: We always thought it was interesting that Shonda Rhimes initially planned to have the president be Olivia Pope's father on Scandal. But what's more interesting? Having her father be the head of a CIA Black Ops Division that kills and tortures people. "Hey Dad, how's B613 going today?" is probably not appropriate father-daughter conversation, but Joe Morton is perfectly cast as Kerry Washington's dad.

3. Best Next Step: Castle makes a big move in its season finale — and it's not having Beckett move to D.C. (not yet at least). After Castle learns of Beckett's job offer in the country's capital, which she wants to take, the two are at odds and are seemingly headed toward a breakup — especially after Martha suggests that Castle "hold back" in the relationship because he doesn't think it's going to work. The couple meets in the park, where Castle tells Beckett: "I've been doing a lot of thinking about us, our relationship, what we have, where we're headed. I've decided I want more. Katherine Houghton Beckett, will you marry me?" Now that's definitely not holding back!

2. The Mother of All Reveals: It was the mother of all finales! How I Met Your Mother finally gives fans what they want and reveals the future Mrs. Mosby (Tony-nominated Once star (and 30 Rock's "very sexy baby") Cristin Milioti) in the closing seconds of the Season 8 finale. As everyone makes their way to Farhampton, Long Island, for Barney and Robin's wedding, Ted, who plans to move to Chicago the day after, tells Lily that he'll take the train back to the city after the nuptials. And we all know who's also taking the train! "One ticket to Farhampton, please," she says at the ticket counter, carrying her yellow umbrella and bass guitar. And yet we're still 56 hours away from her and Ted meeting!

1. Best Finish (That's What She Said): Hats off to the creative team behind The Office, who had us totally convinced that it would be absolutely ridiculous to expect Steve Carell to return for the series finale. Fortunately, they are very good liars, which makes it a super-sweet surprise for viewers when Jim makes up some excuse as to why he can't be Dwight's best man at his wedding, only for Michael Scott to step into the room. "I can't believe you came," Dwight exclaims, with tears in his eyes. "That's what she said," Michael responds, natch. Later, Michael gives one final talking-head interview. "I feel like all my kids grew up and then they married each other," he says with tears in his eyes. Seriously, Michael Gary Scott is the world's best boss... and best dad.
