John Mayer‘s earned himself quite a negative reputation for the way he’s treated, and spoken about, the women he’s dated, including sweet Taylor Swift. In a new interview with CBS Sunday Morning, the 35-year-old rocker finally admits that he wasn’t always the nicest guy, but insists that he’s changed his ways!

In the new interview, set to air on Feb. 10, John tells interviewer Anthony Mason, bluntly, “I was just a jerk.” “It’s very liberating when you finally realize it’s impossible to make everyone like you,” he adds.

Taylor Swift ‘Dear John’ — Attacks John Mayer With Song

John infamously dated Taylor, 23, back in early 2012, a relationship the country singer chronicled in the song “Dear John”, off of her album Speak Now. In the track, she really let John have it, singing, “Dear John, I see it all now it was wrong/Don’t you think nineteen’s too young/To be played by your dark, twisted games/When I loved you so, I should’ve known.”

John Responds To ‘Dear John’ In ‘Rolling Stone’

In July of 2012, John finally spoke publicly about the revenge song, telling Rolling Stone that it left him feeling “humiliated”. “It made me feel terrible,” he said. “Because I didn’t deserve it. I’m pretty good at taking accountability now, and I never did anything to deserve that. It was a really lousy thing for her to do.”

We hope that John truly is a changed man. Maybe new girlfriend Katy Perry, whom he’s been dating on and off since late 2012, has been beneficial for him? He’s expected to discuss his new relationship in the interview, which airs in its entirety on CBS at 9:00am on Feb. 10.
