Seth MacFarlane Oscar Teaser Is A Spoof Of Psycho

Jan 28 2013, 3:15am CST | by

A sample of what to expect on 2/24

Academy Award time is quickly approaching, and that means it's time for Seth MacFarlane to get out there and do some good old-fashioned promoting. Case in point - a new video of him in a promo that spoofs Alfred Hitchcock's classic 1960 film Psycho.

While it may seem touche to look back on black-and-white horror movies and make fun of them, it's still a fun video to watch. The gimmick is that MacFarlane is in the Bates Motel, in the room right next to where the infamous shower scene takes place. Rather than alert anyone, he just pounds on the wall in annoyance at the disruptive screaming.

MacFarlane will be able to do for the Academy Awards what almost nobody has done in recent years - bring a truly unique and original voice and delivery style to the show. At least, that's what America is hoping for, and why he was chosen.

If you look back at some of the recent hosts of the Oscars, you'll find mostly a bunch of schmucks and schmuckettes who just read from a teleprompter and performed in comedy skits that only a bunch of temp comedy writers could have come up with.

MacFarlane, though, has proven to millions of Americans that he can be funny and witty, and he has the dry sense of humor that the cultural palette of the country is currently thriving on.

If he can pull this gig off successfully, then chances are good he'll be invited back...because nobody else seems to be able to fill the shoes of a competent award show host.

The Academy Awards will air on ABC on February 24 at 7:00 PM Eastern Time. MacFarlane is actually nominated for an award - best original song for the movie "Ted."
