Idology: Report Card for Idol's Week 1 Singers! Plus: Nicki's Side-Eye, Keith's Best Body Part

Week 1 of American Idol‘s twelfth season was a judge-centric affair, focusing on tension between Nicki Minaj and Mariah Carey, Keith Urban’s bemusement/terror at sitting between the two divas and the virus-like resilience of that fourth guy who likes to refer to himself in the third person.

And that’s exactly why the season premiere of Idology kicks off with a discussion of the best and worst contestants from the Chicago and New York auditions. Hey, somebody’s got to pay attention to the critical battle to inherit Phillip Phillips’ crown and sash.

My cohost Melinda Doolittle and I weigh in on the magic of Kez Ban and the miracle of Lazaro Arbos, but when it comes to who should have their Golden Tickets revoked, the conversation gets a little more contentious. (Yes, it’s just like Mariah vs. Nicki, but without the British accents, rampant imperiousness and aggressive side-eye.) Plus, Melinda weighs in on the Keith Urban body part that impresses her most, we both express outrage over the lack of footage of a certain Season 11 comebacker, and our executive producer Jason Averett spices things up with Downton Abbey‘s Dowager Countess, a Doctor Who fave and Nicki’s most important quote ever.

So press play below for the Idology season premiere, and for all my Idol news, recaps, interviews and photo galleries, follow me on Twitter @MichaelSlezakTV!

All The Songs That Were Better Than 'Fancy' This Summer

Sep 1 2014 7:28am CDT | Source: Huffington Post

We are so sick of talking about "Fancy." It's not the song of the summer we deserve, but it's the one we got. Here's what should have dominated the charts in a weird, alternate universe's summer. "Boom Clap" by Charli XCX The breakout track from "The Fault in Our Stars" soundtrack will never get out of your head. "Not On Drugs" by Tove Lo The ...

VMAs Bests Emmys on Facebook with Triple the Engagement

Aug 26 2014 8:27am CDT | Source: Lost Remote

For the past week, the social conversation has centered on the VMAs and Emmys, which aired on back-to-back nights. Each had its share of buzzworthy moments, from Beyonce’s VMA performance (followed by a Jay-Z and Blue Ivy appearance) to Billy Crystal’s tribute to Robin Williams during last night’s Emmys But which awards show captured the attention (and engagement) of Facebook users? Sunday night’s VMAs saw 13 million people with over 30 million interactions; 6.2 million people had ...

5 Reasons why the VMAs No Longer Matter

Aug 25 2014 4:16pm CDT | Source: Huffington Post

If video really did kill the radio star, MTV may have in turn killed its own creation: the video. For years, of course, the network has seemingly been video-phobic, devoting nearly all of its time to reality shows, scripted dramas and other programs that beg the question of why the letter "M" still appears in its name. Once a year, though, MTV remembers that videos still exist (even if they ...

Here's Al Roker Dancing Out His Entire Weather Report

Aug 5 2014 10:16am CDT | Source: Huffington Post

Al Roker danced the hell out of his weather report on Tuesday morning. That's right, the "Today" co-host was inspired by the song "Bang Bang" by Jessie J, Ariana Grande and Nicki Minaj, which he said is his favorite new summer hit. He pulled it up on his phone, and just really felt the beat: var src_url="https://spshared.5min.com/Scripts/PlayerSeed.js?playList=518355989&height=411&width=570&sid=577&origin=undefined&v ...
