Mindy’s live-in boyfriend and ‘soul mate,’ David Wilson, was found shot in their Arkansas home on Jan. 13. So sad.

Troubled country singer Mindy McCready has faced the devastation of losing her “soul mate,” as her live-in boyfriend and father of her youngest child, David Wilson, was found shot by a self-inflicted gunshot wound in their Heber Springs, Arkansas home on Jan. 13, before dying shortly after being transported to a local hospital.

The Cleburne County Sheriff’s department confirmed to the Daily Mail that police and emergency services responded to a call at approximately 6:15pm, though it remains unclear who made the call. David, 34, was transported to the nearby Baptist Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 8:00pm. No criminal charges have been filed, but the investigation is far from over.

Mindy McCready’s Statement On David Wilson’s Passing

Mindy, 37, released a statement regarding David’s passing, saying, “Today, we mourn the loss of my life partner and my children’s father, David Wilson. David was my soulmate; he was a caregiver and guiding hand to our sons, Zander and Zayne. He was a precious gift from God to all of us and, yesterday, he returned home and is now with his mother and father. David loved and he was loved. Those who knew and loved him will miss him; those who did not know David missed the opportunity to know a truly loving and gifted man.”

The couple had been together for around two years. David is the father of Zayne, Mindy’s nine-month old son. Her older son Zander’s father is country singer Billy McKnight.

Mindy’s Prior Troubles

Mindy’s life has been troubled for quite some time now. After her music career began to fade in the late 1990s, she began to struggle with drug addiction and arrests. In 2005 and 2008, she was hospitalized for attempted suicide, and, in 2010, she was taken to the hospital for a drug overdose.

Our thoughts go out to Mindy and David’s family and friends during this difficult time of loss, especially their young son Zayne.
